It’s easy to see why a certain amount of skepticism surrounds the usefulness of home alarm systems. They often come with promises that you and your family will be safe from all possible source of danger and that no one will be able to successfully burglarize your home. Adding to that, they even claim that you can have such miraculous protection for as little as a $1 per day. Often times when something sounds too good to be true, it is, but in this case it really is that good. One of the best ways to see that is to run through a few possible scenarios.
It starts with the criminals. They want to steal things from people’s homes because they don’t want to work. In a sense, they’re lazy. They want to skip all the hours of hard work and sacrifice at a regular job and go straight to the rewards. Along those lines, they’re going to target a house whose owners have neglected home security altogether. These kinds of homes don’t have even the most inexpensive of security measures. A criminal may try to sneak around at night time looking for vulnerabilities, but if some motion-activated lights were to illuminate their activities they would probably scurry away. Also, if all the doors are locked at a residence, the only way they may be able to get in is through a window. If they go up to the window and notice a sticker on it that says the home is protected by a home alarm system, they’re likely to forget any illegal thoughts they were having. If they were thinking about taking something from the back yard of the residence, they would most likely be completely deterred if a dog started barking at them.
Though most of the previously mentioned simple measures would deter the overwhelming majority of criminals, some would be desperate for a score. They might think that sticker on the window is just a decoy. They might think that even though the motion-activated lights were turned on, no one is home and no one in the neighborhood is watching. They might notice that all your doors are locked but try to see if one of them can be manipulated. After they’ve thought about their options, they might consider going all the way. If you don’t have a home alarm system, what is going to stop them? They’d be able to enter the premises and shop around inside your home while you’re at work on or vacation. There will be no alarm company monitoring sensitive intrusion detection sensors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There will be no loud alarm ringing whenever an intrusion has been detected. Police will not automatically be dispatched to your home when a break-in occurs.
A home alarm system can even help protect you from other source of danger besides criminals. An accidental fire has the potential to do much more damage than any criminal can do. Fortunately, a versatile alarm system can also be fitted with fire detecting sensors as well. You would be able to scratch that worry off your list too.
